Triple Eagle

In golf, the lowest possible score you can get is a condor (also known as a double albatross (also known as a triple eagle)).

We may not have gotten lucky on the golf course today, but we did in a more literal sense.

The saga of the mysterious deer carcass continues to unfold. This time, three new visitors came to the farm for a free meal: According to our three-year-old daughter, A momma eagle, a daddy eagle, and a yittle baby eagle.”

Sure enough, after getting their fill they perched themselves right up in the tallest pine tree in our backyard and surveyed the property from pasture to pasture, clocking every movement and sound below down to the squeak of the smallest field mouse.1

Managed to get a few decent shots on my camera, though the auto-focus gave me plenty of grief. I couldn’t quite get all three bald eagles to look in our direction at the same time, but a backyard triple eagle sighting in whatever form nevertheless ranks up there with one of the coolest animal encounters I’ve ever had.

  1. Of course, leave it to the littlest to perch itself up on the highest branch. I can imagine the conversation between what we assume were the parents.↩︎
